SYLVAIN Houles beat off competition from Paul Crarey and Alan Kilshaw to be named as Kingstone Press League One coach of the year at last night's end of season awards.

Houles guided Toulouse Olympique through an unbeaten season on their return to English rugby league's domestic set-up, clinching that feat with a 44-22 victory over Barrow Raiders on Saturday.

Barrow head coach Crarey, who was also up for the accolade along with Rochdale Hornets' Kilshaw, had previously spoken of his admiration for the work done by Houles and his staff this year.

Both the coach and player of the year awards are voted for by a poll of every coach in the competition, with Toulouse's Johnathon Ford winning League One the player honour.

The French outfit completed an awards hat-trick by taking the League One club of the year title as well, while Rochdale's Danny Yates was named young player of the year.
