MICKY Moore accepts he isn’t every supporter’s cup of tea but vowed to change minds following a start he didn’t want in his first game as the club’s full-time manager.

After a month in caretaker charge, fortunes failed to improve after being officially confirmed as Paul Cox’s replacement.

Moore regretted a “suicidal” three-minute period at the start of the second half which was ultimately their undoing.

Cox’s former number two’s appointment hasn’t gone down well with a section of the Holker Street fan-base but he addressed the discontent after a group of fans were involved in an ugly stand-off with managing director Andrew Casson, where the validity of Moore’s appointment was questioned.

He said: “There will be some supporters who would have wanted a more experienced manager, someone who has been there, done it before but it doesn’t matter – every person in life needs an opportunity, in every walk of life, not just football.

“The club has given me this opportunity, I believe in my ability and I have been around this level for the past seven or eight seasons.

“All I will say to the supporters is give me the opportunity to show you what I can do. I have had seven games and I have six or seven first team players out.

“It seems every game we lose another, any manager in that situation would struggle. It doesn’t matter who comes in, they would struggle with these types of problems.

“I understand the fans’ frustration, but the best way to deal with it is to get that next win as quickly as we can.”

Moore added: “We’re not having much luck at the moment but we’ve got to keep working hard and keep believing that it will turn. I thought we equipped ourselves quite well, we had a right good go at it. It’s was a couple of crazy mistakes in a few minutes at the start of the second half, they were suicidal moments and we needed to do better.

“You don’t mind losing games of football if the opposition has played well, but we gifted them goals. The third in particular. Our centre-back and full-back colliding together, it makes life difficult.

“You just can’t do that, but we got ourselves back into it by plugging away. We got our goal and I thought we may be able to nick one but fair play to them, Sutton held on and got the win.

“We’ll take some positives from the game. We scored twice, Byron scored two goals and we didn’t give in.”
