VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE

BARROW AFC 2 (Gomis 23, White 41) LEYTON ORIENT 2 (Mooney 19, Clay 27)

BEDSENTE Gomis and Jordan White brought Barrow AFC back from behind twice as they claimed a 2-2 draw in an entertaining match against Leyton Orient.

David Mooney and Craig Clay both gave the well-supported visitors the lead, but each time the Bluebirds clawed it back.

Just seconds after Barrow had the first chance of the game, with Chris Clements dragging wide from 20 yards, Orient went in front.

James Brophy made the break down the left and slid the ball into the area, where captain Mooney was there to apply the finishing touch and put the ball beneath Joel Dixon into the back of the net.

Barely had the supporters had time to catch their breath than the scores were level once more as Clements found Gomis behind the O’s defence and he bounced the ball into the ground and over the on-rushing Charlie Grainger into the far corner.

The home fans thought their side were leading two minutes later as Alex-Ray Harvey delivered a good free-kick from just inside the visitors’ half and Byron Harrison rose majestically to head home, only for the offside flag to cut short the delight.

There were no such problems for Orient as they went back in front following a goal-mouth scramble where Dixon pulled off two superb point-blank saves before Clay applied the finishing touch from a yard out.

Barrow were level again before the break as White applied the final touch to a move involving Gomis and Clements to end his run without a goal.

There were a flurry of chances for the visitors early in the second half, as Liam Hughes blocked a Mooney effort and Dixon saved from both Mooney and Macauley Bonne.

Dixon made another good block, this time with his feet, as Mooney went low at his near post, with both sides seeking a potential winner.

White must have thought he had it when he met a Bradley Bauress cross and hit an effort goalwards, but Harrison fell to ground in front of him and blocked his team-mates shot.

Harrison was then just off-target as he stretched to meet a deflected Hughes effort in the area, but stabbed just past the post.

Brophy had a late shout for a penalty waved away as he went down in the Barrow area, stumbling to the ground to no avail, with the same result at the other end when there were shouts of handball.

Dan Jones became the latest name to be added to Barrow AFC’s ever-increasing injury list as he missed the clash.

The full-back has been sidelined for around a fortnight, adding his presence in the treatment room to that of Thierry Audel, Moussa Diarra, Adi Yussuf, and Dave Nisekens.

Grimsby Town loanee Clements came into the line-up, which was otherwise unchanged from the side beaten by a late goal at Hartlepool United on Tuesday night.
