VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE

BARROW AFC 3 (Hindle 7; Smith 69, 72) CHESTERFIELD 2 (Hines 14; Evans 50)

TEENAGER Tyler Smith was the Barrow AFC hero, with two goals in three minutes to bring them a huge win over Chesterfield.

The Bluebirds were 2-1 down with 21 minutes to go – Jack Hindle having put them ahead early on – but the on-loan striker made his mark to earn a second successive home win.

Barrow had an early chance to take the lead as a goalmouth scramble ended with Kyle Jameson hitting over the bar from a yard out on his home debut.

Andy Firth made a good save with his legs from Marc-Antoine Fortune, after he twisted and turned into space in the area, but that led to a quick break.

Tyler Smith made space on the right and played the ball into the feet of Hindle, who fired past the dive of Shwan Jalal.

The visitors were quick to respond, as Jerome Binnom-Williams delivered a cross from the left that was floated right onto the head if Zavon Hines, who glanced a header past Firth and into the net.

An injury to Sam Wedgbury led to lengthy treatment the game losing its flow as he was stretchered off, with the next real chances for the hosts coming in injury-time as James saw a shot deflected just wide.

Steve Jennings came on in stoppage time following an injury to Jason Taylor.

The visitors were ahead five minutes into the second half as Hines floated a free-kick into the box, and Will Evans was unmarked and made no mistake with his header.

Less than two minutes later, Chesterfield were down to 10 men as Binnon-Williams was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Nathan Waterston on halfway.

Chesterfield now sat back, but John Rooney twice fired off target and Hindle shot over as the hosts tried to find an equaliser.

They had it as a patient passing move ended with Smith played in behind the defence and slotting past Jalal into the bottom corner.

Smith was at it again three minutes later as Rooney put in a cross a yard from the byline and the youngster rose to head home.

Rooney hit a 20-yard effort that had Jalal scrambling as it swerved in the air, the keeper tipping it over as the atmosphere bubbled.

Firth made a good save from a Charlie Carter free-kick 20 yards out, before Jennings saw red after complaining about a booking from referee Joe Johnson.

Jennings went straight into the squad just hours after he was announced as signing on at Holker Street.

The former Tranmere Rovers captain, 33, joined on non-contract terms, having spent time with Southport and Warrington Town last season.

He went onto the bench, with Nathan Waterston taking the place of broken metatarsal victim Rhys Turner in the starting line-up – the only change to the side that drew 2-2 at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Lee Molyneux, available after a three-game suspension, was also among the substitutes named by Ian Evatt against his former side.

Chesterfield included goalkeeper Shwan Jalal in their team- a member of the title-winning Macclesfield Town side last season – as well as former Celtic man Marc-Antoine Fortune.
