YORK City welcome Barrow AFC to Bootham Crescent tomorrow with a squad rapidly reinforced during the January transfer window.

While the Bluebirds have added two loan signings in the shape of goalkeeper Jon Flatt and midfielder Dan Rowe, boss Paul Cox has spoken of the need to add more faces to a thin squad.

There have been no such issues for Minstermen manager Gary Mills, who has brought in players left, right and centre over the past two weeks.

The double loan signing of Cheltenham Town duo Amari Morgan-Smith and former City player Daniel Parslow came ahead of their FA Trophy victory against Harlow Town last weekend.

Twenty-one-year-old Hull City forward Johan ter Horst is set for his debut against the Bluebirds this weekend having agreed terms, while Hamza Bencherif is the latest recruit, moving from National League rivals Wrexham to join up with former boss Mills until the end of the season.

Defender Bencherif featured for Wrexham in the 2-2 draw against Barrow in October and played 26 games for the Dragons – the latest coming last weekend against North Ferriby United.

Also since Barrow last encountered City – a 2-0 win at Holker Street in September which sent them to a season-high third in the National League – there have been several other new faces arriving.

One-time Barrow target Jon Parkin is among the headline recruits, having joined from League Two Newport County – the side who beat Barrow to the experienced front man’s signature in the summer.

Defender Danny Holmes moved in from AFC Fylde and striker Adriano Moko returned to the club from Boreham Wood.

Those arrivals have not helped City’s National League form, and they sit rock-bottom of the table having won just once since their visit to Furness three-and-a-half months ago – a Boxing Day success at fellow relegation battlers North Ferriby United.

They have won through two rounds of the FA Trophy in that time to reach the last 16 – beating lower-league Worcester City and Harlow, both at the first attempt.
