WREXHAM have a new manager in place for tonight's home game against Barrow.

The club's board have appointed former club captain Dean Keates as their replacement for Gary Mills, who was sacked following a poor start to the season.

Keates initially took charge in a caretaker manager's role and enjoyed a winning start on Saturday when the Welshmen earned a welcome three points with a 2-1 victory over Bromley at The Racecourse.

Shaun Harrad, with his third goal in as many games, gave Wrexham an interval lead and athough Bromley equalised at the start of the second half, Gerry McDonagh’s strike 10 minutes from time sealed the win which took the Reds up to 14th place in the National League table.

This is Keates' first managerial appointment and he has signed an 18-month contract.

Wrexham AFC director John Mills told the club's website: "We are delighted to welcome Dean to Wrexham AFC as the club's new permanent manager following his period leading the interim management team.

"As expected, there was huge interest in the position of Wrexham AFC manager but we believe we have chosen the outstanding candidate to take the club forward, to match our own aspirations and those of our supporters."
