BARROW AFC will have to go out and try to silence the Bristol Rovers home support in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Captain Danny Livesey has come up against the Gas on many occasions during his playing career and expects their fans to be fully and vocally behind them this weekend.

The 31-year-old wants Barrow to do their best to counter that atmosphere by going on the front foot from the start and doing enough to shut up the Memorial Stadium crowd.

“I played Bristol quite a few times, I've been down there a lot,” he said. “I've not played against them too much recently because we have been in different leagues.

“They're very passionate people down there and there are normally a lot of fans. I can't see it being any different on Sunday. There will be a lot of fans there, they are quite close to the pitch, they get right behind the team, and it will get a little bit hostile.

“It will be nice to go out and try and shut the fans up, which is what you want to do when it comes to away games. As soon as you get them quiet, then you know you are getting the upper hand.”

Livesey expects Barrow to be full of confidence for the trip to the Memorial Stadium, despite the two-division gap between the sides in the footballing pyramid.

The Bluebirds go into the game on the back of a 21-match unbeaten run in league and cup competitions – the latest triumph being a thumping 4-1 win at fellow National League promotion contenders Dagenham and Redbridge last weekend.

The captain and his team-mates are relishing the experience of going so many matches without defeat, and Livesey said: “If you're not confident now as a player, you never will be. We know the run is going to come to an end, and we will be beaten eventually, but we're just enjoying the ride while we are on it. We take a lot of stick as footballers, rightly so, when we lose games, it's just nice that we've not been on the end of that now for 21 games.

“It's always pleasing to win or to not get beat, more to the point.”
