ADY Pennock missed new signing Lewis Walters scoring when he watched him in action for Nottingham Forest Under-23s last week.

But the Barrow AFC boss had already seen enough to know he wanted to bring the 22-year-old to Holker Street.

Walters arrived yesterday and is available to feature this afternoon against Dagenham and Redbridge (3pm kick-off).

“I've watched him three or four times now. I watched him two weeks ago at Sheffield United. He impressed me then, and I'd like to thank Nottingham Forest for getting it over the line for us.”

He added: “He did score the winner (at Sheffield United) – but I'd left by then. It was freezing cold and I didn't see the goal! But I saw it on YouTube.

“I saw enough in the first 75 minutes to make up my mind. I was going to bring him in earlier, but he got a yellow card in that game and he was suspended for Saturday's game.

“We're very pleased to get him on board, because we've got a busy period coming up.

“I do like wingers. He's certainly that type of player who will hopefully get bums off seats. With Brad (Bauress) and H (Harry Panayiotou), who are doing very well, we've got Donovan (Makoma) and other players in the team as well, and he will be a good addition.”

Pennock is looking forward to seeing Walters in action, with the chance he will make his debut against Dagenham and Redbridge today.

“I think he'll bring a bit of pace,” said Pennock. “We've brought him in to be a wide player/centre-forward, because he has got good pace; he's a strong boy.

“I'm just very pleased we've got him on board and I'd like to thank Andrew and Paul (Casson, AFC's managing director and owner) for letting me do that, because from day one they have always been very supportive.

“He'll be a good addition to the squad, that's for sure.”
