STRIKER Byron Harrison is progressing well in his recovery from ankle surgery.

The Barrow AFC ace went under the knife last month to resolve a long-standing issue which all-but ended his 2016/17 campaign three months early.

Boss Paul Cox reported the 30-year-old was recovering well and was already able to do some physio work to help the ankle recover, with the hope he would be available before the end of the month.

“Byron is going well, and we have been told he should be back in three weeks, which is positive,” said Cox.

“I spoke to Matt (Butterfield, the AFC physio) and he has said three weeks. Byron was running on one of the new specialist machines where you don't put any pressure on the joints, which is positive.”

Harrison has played only a handful of games for Barrow after hurting his ankle in a fall during their 3-0 win over Lincoln in mid-January.

A prolonged recovery, with several setbacks, eventually led to a return for two of the last games of the season – scoring his 22nd and final goal of the campaign at Braintree – but he did not appear fully fit.

When he returned for pre-season training, new physio Butterfield spotted the issue and Harrison underwent an operation to repair the damage.

Should his recovery go to plan, he should be back in time for AFC's home match against Maidenhead United on August 26.
