A 'PROPER six-pointer' on the back of an 'awful' performance awaits Barrow AFC in West Yorkshire tomorrow.

Bluebirds boss Ady Pennock has reported a positive response in the camp to the 2-0 FA Trophy exit at the hands of Brackley Town on Tuesday.

Pennock spoke bluntly after the display, saying there were some players who would be on their way out following it, and other who would have to come in.

Goalkeeper Steve Arnold has already arrived, but Pennock reports the squad have responded in the correct way ahead of what is a big game against a side below them in the National League table.

“It has been very positive; they were very good,” Pennock said of training since the Trophy defeat. “All the players were obviously disappointed with the performance on Tuesday night, but it has been very positive.

“We trained and had a recovery session, then we had a good meeting after that, which was very positive.

“They're very good lads. There are no bad eggs in there, and they were hurting like we all were. The meeting was very positive and we're really looking forward to Saturday now.”

He added: “They're all big games, it doesn't matter who it is. If we were playing Macclesfield tomorrow or Torquay, they're all big games. I'm a great believer than in this league, on their day, anybody can beat anybody.

“We've got to turn up. We know what to expect, and it is a big game, because of where we are in the league, but anybody can beat anybody on their day in this league.”

Pennock has promised changes tomorrow – both tactically and personnel-wise – from the team beaten by Brackley, as AFC look to extend their fine away form.

They have not been beaten on the since October 24 – when Neill Hornby was still in caretaker charge – a run stretching back for seven matches.

Continuing that form against Guiseley is exactly what the AFC boss is looking for, and he said: “It's a proper six-pointer and we've got to go there and hopefully carry on this away form, because that's totally different to the home form. We've got to go there and get a result, that's for sure.

“The form does give us confidence, but I can't put my finger on why we're not like that at home – it's a strange one.

“As long as we carry on picking up points, that's what we need to do – it doesn't matter if it is at home or away.

“Ideally, we would love to win our games at home as well, because our fans turn up and want to see us win. I just can't put my finger on why we aren't doing that well at home.

“As long as we keep winning and picking up points away from home, then that's very important.”
