NEW Barrow AFC signing Harry Panayiotou will be at Holker Street on Saturday for the Bluebirds' match against York City.

St Kitts and Nevis international striker Panayiotou penned a two-year deal at Holker Street this week , after being released by Premier League champions Leicester City at the start of the summer.

He has been without a club since then, but has been on trial with a number of teams, including Yeovil Town, Coventry City and Borussia Dortmund Under-23s.

The main issue over whether Panayiotou will feature in some capacity against the Minstermen this weekend (3pm kick-off) is his match-fitness.

AFC manager Paul Cox feels he might need more time to get up to pace – with a behind-closed-doors match against Fleetwood Town in midweek the chance for him and several other Bluebirds players to gain valuable game-time.

“Harry will be at the game,” Cox confirmed of the York clash. “He needs conditioning now, and there will be a period for doing that.

“We've got a behind-closed-doors game next week, and we're looking to use the boys who haven't had a lot of game time and to run the rule over a number of triallists.

“What we've got to do now is get him up to scratch with his fitness, sharpness, and get a bit of match time in his legs to get him up to speed to where he should be.

“We'll make a decision whether to include him in the squad tomorrow, or whether to just make sure that he has some proper conditioning first, so that he does himself justice.

“He's not played for a while, and there is an element where he needs to have a look at us as well, see what we do and how we do it.

“With his age and everything else, this is a long-term thing for us. He's coming up to 22, and we just need to get him into a routine, match fitness, match sharpness, and into our mid-set and the way we do things.

“That will be the big thing. He just needs a bit of conditioning and bringing up to scratch.”
