BARROW AFC have contact with more than 30 potential new managers in the days since Micky Moore was axed at Holker Street.

The club have been contacted by the majority, while they have approached others themselves, with a shortlist of between three and five to be drawn up before the end of the weekend.

Among them are candidates with both National League and Football League experience, with the majority available to take up the vacant role with the Bluebirds without the need for compensation.

Some candidates have already been spoken to, with those on the shortlist set to be interviewed next week.

AFC managing director Andrew Casson confirmed there had been significant interest in taking over from Moore, and said: “We've had about 30 people come forward. We've used the contacts that we have to reach out to a few more.

“We're going through that list and the board will make a decision on who the top three to five are, and we will go on from there.

“I think I'll have a pretty solid idea by the end of Saturday, then the directors will confirm if they have anyone else they would like to add to the list. We'll go from there next week.

“We've already had a couple of interviews this week, and we will continue that process next week.”

The hope is to have a new manager in place in the two-week gap in the fixture list between next Saturday's home match with Aldershot and the encounter with Macclesfield Town on November 11.

Casson added: “As we talked about it, it jumped to us that there is a two-week gap. The plan is to use all of next week to make the decision. We have to get the decision right.

“There is always going to be risk, because there is risk in hiring, but we have to make sure that this is the right person to come in, make an impact, and get us moving back up in the right direction.”
