MICKY Moore wants to become a “lucky manager instead of an unlucky one” after he watched his Barrow AFC side lose in the dying seconds at Harlepool United.

Barrow matched their opponents at Victoria Park, but were undone in the 97th minute when Michael Woods headed in to give all three points to the home side.

It was the second time in their six-match winless run where the Bluebirds have lost a game in the last-minute, and Moore is desperate for a dose of fortune to go in their favour.

“Hartlepool will be honest enough to say that they got something they didn’t deserve to,” said Moore, whose side lie just one place and one point above the National League drop-zone.

“AFC Fylde said the same thing the other week. I want to be the lucky manager instead of an unlucky one.

“This luck will change. The players are giving me everything.

“I thought the lads were brilliant on Tuesday and I think should have gone in at half time one or two-nil up.

“I don’t think anyone could say that we didn’t deserve to win the game. If we got a draw I would have been disappointed.

“It’s soul destroying to concede in the last minute after a brilliant performance and when you have created enough chances.

“That’s four games we have lost 1-0 and the second inside 90 minutes.

“Ultimately Hartlepool got the rub of the green. They got lucky and we haven’t got that luck at the moment.

“We have to stick together and work hard – no-one can fault the effort, commitment and desire.”

One player epitomising the struggles is recently-returned forward Byron Harrison. Free scoring last season with 22 goals, the striker has only found the net on three occasions this campaign and missed some wonderful chances against Hartlepool.

“This time last year, everything Byron hit when into the back of the net,” Moore commented. “This year, it’s hitting the goalkeeper or going wide. “I have to keep believing in him. I think he is a fantastic centre forward and I have got to believe that we will keep creating chances and that he will get one.”
