MICKY Moore hopes the extra fans brought into Holker Street on Saturday will have been impressed with Barrow AFC’s efforts in a 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient.

While unable to claim a first victory in seven matches, the Bluebirds did produce one of their best home displays of the campaign in front of 1,796 supporters against the O’s.

Bedsente Gomis and Jordan White both put their names on the scoresheet as AFC twice came from behind, watched by easily the biggest home crowd of the campaign.

“I hope they enjoyed it,” Moore said of a crowd boosted by the offer of free admittance for under-17s and reduced prices for both home and away supporters on Non-League Day. “It was great to get the support we had today – in the second half, you could really hear them, they were getting behind the players. Hopefully, they’ve gone away today happy with what they saw.”

The draw with Leyton Orient followed the agonising last-gasp defeat to Hartlepool on Tuesday night, but Moore felt the first half on Saturday had not been up to the standards shown in the North East.

He said: “In the first half, I didn’t think we played as well as we did on Tuesday night,” said the AFC boss. I know we got a couple of goals, but I’m disappointed with the goals we conceded.

“I thought in the second half, we were a lot better. We played on the front foot, put more pressure on them, and overall I’m happy with the performance.”

He added: “There was disappointment after Tuesday night in terms of the manner of the defeat and how late it came after such a good performance. We came into today and I wanted a reaction; I wanted that same intensity.

“I thought we were a little bit flat in the first half, but overall I thought we played well and deserved at least the draw.”

Moore lost Dan Jones to a knee injury picked up in training ahead of the game, but he said: “I’ve not been one to make excuses. Losing Dan Jones on Thursday was disappointing, so I started with Jimmy Dunne in that position and Liam Hughes in defence just to give us that solidity I thought we had on Tuesday night. I changed it and we went to a back four, pushed Liam into midfield and put an extra one up front, and I thought it gave us the ascendancy. It left us a little bit vulnerable in defence, but we’re at home and you’ve got to try to go and win it. Pushing three up front, I thought was the right thing to do.

“I threw Bradley Bauress up there, and before Brad I threw Bedsente Gomis up there. We’re at home – I wanted to take the game to them in the second half, I wanted to win the game.

“We’ve been on the wrong side of results in the last two weeks, and I just wanted to get a win. I knew I was going to leave myself vulnerable at the back, but the flip-side was we might go and win it 3-2.”
