MICKY Moore delivered a scathing assessment of Barrow AFC’s display as they were held to a 1-1 home draw by National League bottom club Torquay United.

Only an injury-time Byron Harrison goal saved AFC from defeat, after James Gray had given the visitors the lead inside five minutes.

Moore labelled the Bluebirds performance as the worst during his interim tenure and admitted they did not deserve the point they ended up taking from the game.

“The one thing I’ve done in my short tenure here is always give an honest opinion of what I believe I’ve seen,” he said. “Today, I don’t think we deserved anything.”

He added of his time in charge so far: “My first two games (against Maidenhead and Fylde), I didn’t have any time with the players. Since then, we’ve beaten Boreham Wood; we gave a fantastic performance and didn’t get what we deserved at Tranmere; on Tuesday against Guiseley, we drew 0-0 and had a great opportunity to win it; today, was the worst performance over 90 minutes from my four or six games, however you want to look at it.

“Today wasn’t acceptable. I’ve always been honest about what I have seen, but today we have let ourselves down.”

Moore was pleased with the efforts of debutants Jordan Thompson and Paul Bignot.

Both arrived at Holker Street on Friday, and both were called into action a day later.

Thompson started in the centre of defence in place of broken arm victim Thierry Audel, while Bignot came on early in the second half when Jack Barthram had to be withdrawn with a hamstring problem – one of three suffered by Barrow on the afternoon, with Adi Yussuf and Moussa Diarra also hurt.

“Jordan was a massive plus,” said Moore. “He had to come in for Thierry Audel. We signed Paul on the proviso that we needed cover – I wasn’t hoping to use him so early, so quickly, but with Jack going off with his hamstring as well, we had to.

“Both of them were really equipped themselves really well, both only came in yesterday, so there was no real time for them to understand what we are doing, but they are two more players we have on board to add to the squad.”

Moore must now wait to discover if he will still be in charge for next week’s trip to high-flying Sutton United.

He is due to sit down to talk with AFC managing director Andrew Casson in the next couple of days.

Asked if he saw himself still in charge for the Sutton match next week, he said: “I don’t know. I was due to have conversations on Thursday, but with what happened to Thierry Audel, we put them back.

“We will have conversations over the next 48 to 72 hours. We’ve got a free week now, and we have that reflection time now to see how everything is, see where we go from there.”
