MICKY Moore says there is no quick fix to Barrow AFC’s problems as they produced their best home display for a month in a 2-2 draw against Leyton Orient.

Goals from Bedsente Gomis and Jordan White – his first in 10 matches – saw the Bluebirds twice come from behind to end a three-game losing streak.

But they are still seven matches without a win – the same as their opponents on Saturday, who took the lead through both David Mooney – again ending a 10-match drought – and Craig Clay.

Moore was pleased with an improved home display against Orient – following poor efforts in defeat to Maidstone and in drawing against Torquay in their previous two outings at Holker Street – and is positive the club are on the right path, but warned it may still take time.

“We’re all frustrated that we haven’t won today, because ultimately we want to win games of football, but I genuinely believe that the process we are on is the right one,” said Moore, whose side sit a single point above the National League relegation zone following the draw against the O’s.

“There is no easy, quick fix to what I inherited. I inherited a squad that was low on confidence, and I genuinely believe we have been competitive in every game.

“We’ve lost games by one goal, we’ve never been hammered, and we’ve created enough opportunities and chances during games to have more wins.

“I’ve got a belief in the process and the players. I wouldn’t have thought that any supporter would question the work ethic, we just need that rub of the green to get the win.”

He added: “They’re a great bunch. It’s my job to give them confidence and keep them believing. Hopefully, that will then spread across to the supporters, they will see what we are trying to do. I think we’re a gnat’s whisker away from getting a win and then going on a run.”

Moore lost Dan Jones to a knee injury ahead of Saturday’s draw – the full-back out for a fortnight after picking up the problem in training on Thursday.

That meant a makeshift three-man central defensive unit involving Jordon Thompson, Liam Hughes and Tony Diagne was deployed, with Jack Barthram and Jimmy Dunne as full-backs.

It was another injury to add to a growing list – Jones joining Thierry Audel, Mouss Diarra, Dave Nieskens and Adi Yussuf on the sidelines – but the side still performed well against the O’s, with Moore particularly pleased with the second half.

“It’s mixed emotions at the moment,” he said. “I’m proud of the players in terms of their effort, their desire, their commitment, their never-say-die attitude. To go 1-0 down, make it 1-1, go 2-1 down, make it 2-2.

“I thought in the second half we were the team in the ascendancy. Yes, we took a few chances, a few risks, because we wanted to win the game – we pushed three up front and that leaves you a little bit vulnerable sometimes at the back – but by the end there was only one team going to try to win to game.

“It’s stopped the run of defeats. We have been playing well, but we didn’t get the rub of the green. Today, I thought we played well, but we didn’t have the rub of the green again – Byron Harrison has scored a good goal for me, he’s had it chalked off and that was disappointing. There is a lot to build on.”

He added: “If you look at the opportunities, I think we created enough chances to win two or three games. We were positive and we did everything we could to win the game of football.

“I don’t think anyone could say we were negative today or that we threw men behind the ball – we were positive we everything we have done, with our decisions in terms of changing the system, bringing Brad (Bauress) on. It was all to be positive and to try to win the three points. That’s what we’ve got to be going forward now.”
