BARROW AFC missed out on the chance to climb the National League standings yet further when their match at Macclesfield Town was postponed.

A 6pm pitch inspection at The Moss Rose found the surface frozen, and the referee called the game off.

The Barrow players were already at the stadium - where a match against Dover Athletic on Saturday was abandoned after 30 minutes because of dense fog.

Victory for Barrow over the Silkmen could have seen them climb as high as top spot in the National League from third, thought they now face dropping positions as rivals' matches go ahead.

The Bluebirds will return to action on Sunday, when they travel to League One Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup second round.

Another game to fall victim to the weather was the FA Trophy third qualifying round replay between Salford City and Harrogate Town.

The winners of the tie – which will now be played next Tuesday – will host Barrow in the first round on Saturday, December 10.
