MICKY Moore is hopeful Jordan White's first goal in 10 games can kick-start him into regular goal-scoring form for Barrow AFC.

White found the net for the first time since bagging at Dover Athletic on August 19 when he grabbed the second equaliser in Saturday's 2-2 National League draw against Leyton Orient.

The former Wrexham and Livingston front-man applied the final touch to a move involving Bedsente Gomis and loan man Chris Clements, showing his obvious delight at ending his seven-week drought as he celebrated vociferously in front of the Holker Street End.

White also looked nailed-on to have scored a second after the break, when he got a touch to a cross from Bradley Bauress which was fumbled by Orient keeper Charlie Grainger, only for team-mate Byron Harrison to stumble at an inopportune moment and block the goal-bound effort.

But having found the target once against the O's – taking his season tally to four, following the effort against Dover and a brace in the 3-0 success against Woking – Moore is confident the 25-year-old can kick on and continue to add to his total.

“It’s massive for Jordan,” said Moore of the Scottish striker's 41st-minute goal. “You want your forwards to score goals.

“I’ve had plenty of conversations with Jordan. Has his confidence been a little bit low? Of course it has, because by his very high standards, he has missed some good chances.

“On Saturday, there was some good football, a good cross, a good header from Chris Clements down to him and it gave him the opportunity to score a goal.

“Hopefully now, that will kick-start him, and he can go on about scoring more goals for us.”

Another player who performed well on Saturday, was Joel Dixon, who it was revealed had signed a new contract with the Bluebirds ahead of the game.

Dixon has been on an initial three-month deal, having spent close to a year on the sidelines with a knee injury which required surgery.

He came back into the fold for the 3-2 defeat at Sutton United on September 23, and has started the three matches since then as well.

Dixon's new deal takes him until the end of the current campaign, with the option for another season.

He has replaced Stuart Moore between the sticks for AFC, a man signed by former boss Paul Cox in the summer.

While White and Dixon will look to build on their efforts against Leyton Orient, AFC full-back Dan Jones is concentrating on regaining his fitness after hurting his knee in training on Thursday.

The problem saw him sit out the O's encounter, and will also see him miss the trip to Barnsley on Sunday for the FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Shaw Lane.

Jones will be out for around a fortnight, and had to withdraw from the England C squad for their training camp, which was being held on Sunday and again today.

Moore said of the ex-Hartlepool United man: “Dan has done his knee, so you’re looking at two weeks – Ebbsfleet, hopefully, but if not then Chester.

“He’s had to pull out of the England C squad, unfortunately for him, it was a great opportunity.”
