PAUL Cox hopes to have calf problem victims Paul Turnbull and Shaun Beeley fully fit for this weekend.

The Barrow AFC pair sat out training on the 3G pitches on Thursday as the team prepares for Saturday's FA Trophy first round tie at Harrogate Town.

Turnbull has been sidelined for a month after suffering a niggle on the artificial surface ahead of the match at Sutton United, while missed training with his issue for the first time this week.

With the match at Harrogate on their new 3G, Cox is weary of fielding Turnbull, but expects Beeley should be okay for the weekend.

He said: “Shaun Beeley missed training today with a bit of a calf, and Paul Turnbull has had some new inner-soles put into his shoes and he's missed training the last couple of days just to get acclimatised with them.

“We went to see a specialist in orthotics. They did some tests and gave him a new inner-sole to try and alter the way he walks, the balance and the pressure and so on.

“You look at the strain and the pressure it puts on muscles, muscle groups and even the skeletal system to an extent. Hopefully this will have cleared Bully up.

“I don't know if we're going to take a chance on him on the 3G, because that's where the problem started and where he has had problems in the past with it.”

Cox gave his players both Monday and Tuesday off from training this week, before a hard session on Wednesday and two days practising on the 3G.

He added: “We gave them a little breather just to get their legs back and have some time with their families. They've worked hard, they've been playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, so they probably needed a couple of days off.”
