BYRON Harrison hopes Barrow AFC can harness the same energy Taunton Town used against them when the Bluebirds take on Bristol Rovers tomorrow.

Taunton – three divisions below Barrow in the footballing pyramid – went toe-to-toe with their high-league opponents over two FA Cup first-round ties.

The Peacocks managed a 2-2 draw at the Viridor Stadium before coming from a goal behind at Holker Street in the replay on their way to an eventual 2-1 defeat.

Taunton showed that the gulf between divisions can be easily overcome in the FA Cup, with nothing to split the teams for much of the 180 minutes they spent on the field together.

Now Harrison – who netted a penalty in the first match against the Somerset side – hopes that Barrow can perform a role reversal against League One Rovers at the Memorial Stadium and show there is little to separate the National League from the Football League.

“It's a massive game,” said Harrison, who was part of the League One Stevenage side who disposed of Championship Reading 1-0 in the third round in 2011. “We've come through two tough games with Taunton, so we know what it's like when a team from a lower league comes to play you.

“We hope to use that same energy as they did, and try to put that type of pressure on to Bristol.

“Teams sometimes when they are a league or two below, they raise they levels. It's the FA Cup. I think we've got all the right tools to go and cause what many would see as an upset.

“We've just got to approach this game how we have been approaching all the others. It's going to take hard work to put a good team out of the cup – they're not going to just give it to us.

“We're coming off the back of a good away win at Dagenham (where Harrison scored twice In a 4-1 victory last weekend), and we're looking forward to the game. We know the rewards on offer if you win and you are in the draw for the third round.”

He added: “The National League and League One are different levels, although I'm sure a few of their squad were in their National League promotion team. They're a good team and they've been doing well – we're expecting a tough game, and they're at home. It should be a good game all-round.”

Harrison is hopeful he can be part of another FA Cup shock tomorrow, after that victory with Stevenage over Reading, and knows Barrow have it in them to raise their game.

He said: “Even if you haven't been involved directly in one of those games, you know about so many examples of what can happen in the FA Cup if you take a team lightly or you switch off.

“Everyone seems to raise their game. We're coming off the back of two tough games against Taunton – we have that experience, we know what it's like to be chased and have a team work that hard against us. We have to apply that in our game against Bristol, do our best and hopefully that's enough.”
