BYRON Harrison faces between one and two months out of action following a successful ankle operation.

The Barrow AFC striker went under the knife on Thursday to correct a problem which has niggled him since earlier in the year.

Harrison sat out the majority of the final three months of Barrow’s 2016/17 National League campaign after bring hurt when falling to the ground after taking a ball to the face in the 3-0 win over Lincoln City in January.

After several false starts, he returned to action in the final games of the season, but did not look right as he hobbled around the field – though he still managed to net against Braintree Town.

Upon his return to pre-season training, Harrison met with physio Matt Butterfield, and was subsequently referred to a specialist, who identified an issue around the original injury which required surgery to correct.

That took place on Thursday, and following the 1-1 pre-season draw with Nottingham Forest at Holker Street on Saturday, manager Paul Cox confirmed it had been a success.

Harrison will still need time on the sidelines to fully recover before he can return to the fold however.

“Byron’s operation went excellently, said Cox. “We’ve been told it has been a success – we could be looking at between four and eight weeks, from what I gather.

“Having somebody like him back, will be like signing a proper marquee player at this level of football.”
