BARROW AFC have confirmed Grant Holt has rejoined the club as a player/coach.

The 36-year-old will join the Bluebirds for training at their Hopwood Hall base, near Rochdale, today and tomorrow and will be available for Saturday's match-up with Macclesfield Town.

Holt will work alongside new manager Ady Pennock, having left Evo-Stick South side Kings Lynn Town last weekend.

Tweeting following his first training session, Holt said: "Glad to be back at @BarrowAFC been a long time and a few clubs in between. Fantastic opportunity and looking forward to it. #allbluebirdsareblue"

A Barrow club statement said: “We are delighted to confirm that Grant Holt has returned to Barrow in a player/coach role!

“Having started the season with Kings Lynn Town, we approached them regarding his availability and were informed that he had a seven-day notice period.

“Having waited several days, Kings Lynn waived that notice and Grant trained with the squad today and will do so again tomorrow.

“Cumbria-born and bred, Grant started his footballing career up the coast at Workington before making the switch to Halifax Town in Division Three.

“After a loan spell at Holker Street, Grant made the move permanent later in 2001 and enjoyed a successful two-year spell with us, earning him a move to Sheffield Wednesday and then Rochdale.

“He made his breakthrough at the Dale and went on to make a name for himself in the Football League and ultimately the Premiership with the likes of Aston Villa, Wigan Athletic and, most notably, Norwich City, where he remains a firm fans favourite.

“His success also extended over the Scottish border in 2016, when he played an instrumental part in Hibernians' league success as they won promotion from the Scottish Championship to the Scottish Premier League.”

Holt will meet with supporters for the first time at a question and answer session, alongside Pennock, in the Crossbar at Holker Street on Friday night. Doors will open at 6pm, with proceedings under way at 7pm.
