STAR striker Byron Harrison has suffered a minor setback on his road to recovery from an ankle injury.

Barrow AFC boss Paul Cox has hoped to have Harrison back in action for Saturday's National League match-up with Dagenham and Redbridge at Holker Street.

However, the 29-year-old – who has been out of action since being hurt in the 3-0 win over Lincoln City on January 24 – is at least another week away from returning to full training.

Harrison, who has 20 league goals to his name this term, suffered minor discomfort as he started to up his training regime following several weeks of treatment, with Cox not wanting to risk him until he is fully recovered.

“This weekend will be a little bit too early for him, but he seems to be up and running,” said Cox, who does have fellow striker Richie Bennett back from suspension and Ross Hannah close to a return from a minor hamstring niggle this weekend. “He had a little bit of a setback with a little bit of discomfort in there, but he's back now.

“Now it's just about the lad being 100 per cent certain that he's ready to step back in. What we don't want to do is rush him back too early and for it all to come crashing down and the hard work to go to ruin.

“It's about the lad being comfortable and 100 per cent certain he's right to come back into full training.”

Tuesday's home match with Wrexham is also seen as being too soon for Harrison to come back, though there is the possibility he will make the trip to Solihull Moors next weekend.

“I think we're talking about him being back in training proper at the end of next week and going from there,” added Cox. “There would still be a lot of points to play for after that.”
