BARROW AFC skipper Danny Livesey is happy to see a restructured Barrow AFC squad riding high in the National League.

Livesey was one of only a handful of players retained by manager Paul Cox from the team which battled its way into the top half last season.

The majority of the squad currently sitting fourth in the table were brought in over the summer or since the season has started – the likes of Moussa Diarra, Shaun Beeley, Paul Turnbull and Richie Bennett.

But, while it might have been expected they would need time to gel and find their rhythm, results have been positive and the Bluebirds have a tally of 24 points from 12 matches so far.

Livesey puts a lot of that down to the speed with which the squad came together, hailing the attitude of all the players on the Holker Street books, whether they find themselves starting matches every week or not.

He said: “We seem to have clicked in pre-season. The lads who have come in were made welcome and I think they have settled down well – there were so many that everyone was getting to know each other.

“They are all good lads who have come in. It really helps when you haven’t got any bad eggs, when everyone wants the same thing. Even when they not playing, they want the team to progress and do well, because ultimately everyone benefits from the team doing well.”

Livesey intends to keep enjoying the season at Barrow as they battle it out among the high-fliers in the National League.

He knows there will likely be a lull in their form at some point – Barrow are seven games unbeaten going into Saturday’s trip to second-placed Forest Green Rovers – but feels that positive results are breeding confidence and that can continue.

“I’ve been pleased,” Livesey said. “It took a little bit of getting going, where we weren’t really playing with any sort of form, but we were grinding out results.

“That breeds confidence and you start playing better just because you have those results on the board early doors.

“It’s been a tough start trying to get that rhythm into the team, but once we got that, we feel like we have clicked. At the minute, we’re going through a very good patch.

“We know a dip in form will come, but while we’re playing well, we’re going to enjoy it, because we take enough stick when it’s not going well and it’s nice to take a little bit of credit for a bit.”
