MIDFIELDER Paul Turnbull is set to be fit to face Accrington Stanley on Tuesday after limping from the field in Barrow AFC’s 1-0 win over Carlisle United.

The former Macclesfield Town captain hurt his right ankle when he was fouled in only the second minute of the Holker Street encounter on Saturday.

After receiving treatment on the field and the sideline, he returned to action, but was substituted on 18 minutes having failed to fully recover.

But AFC boss Paul Cox is positive the ankle issue is only a minor one and expects the tough central midfielder to be available for the midweek pre-season clash with League Two Stanley.

“He’s all right – he just twisted his sock!” smiled Cox, before adding: “He’s a tough old boy and it was more or less a precaution. I think he will be back for Tuesday.

“He’s taken a bang and he’s gone over on his ankle. We’ll give him as much time as he needs. The main thing is getting him right for the start of the season.

“If there is any doubt for Tuesday, then we will leave him out and he will play at Stalybridge. If not, then knowing Bully he will come in and sail on through it.”
