BYRON Harrison’s time at Barrow AFC appears to be at an end after he joined Sutton United on loan.

Last season’s top-scorer has been a peripheral figure in recent weeks at Holker Street, restricted to appearances from the bench.

He has failed to recapture the form of last season which saw him score 22 goals for the Bluebirds, despite missing three months of the campaign through an ankle injury.

Harrison scored twice in Barrow’s 3-2 defeat at Sutton earlier in the season, but has found Grant Holt and, more recently, loanee Luke James ahead of him in the AFC pecking order.

Signed by Paul Cox in the summer of 2016, he made a quick impact for AFC and was regularly on the scoresheet as they climbed the table and were in promotion contention for much of the season.

However, he was injured after scoring in the home win against Lincoln City last January and only returned to action in the final weeks of the campaign.

He missed the first month of this season as the ankle problem failed to properly heal, and only returned following the departure of Cox, during Micky Moore’s brief spell in charge.

His last appearance came on Tuesday, when he came off the bench against his new club in a 1-1 draw at Holker Street.

The 30-year-old Londoner has joined Sutton until the end of the season, when his AFC contract expires.

U's boss Paul Doswell said of the deal: ”Byron’s a player I’ve admired and known for a long time, and I’m delighted that I’ve finally managed to persuade him to join us.”
