SHAUN Beeley is the major injury doubt for Barrow AFC ahead of tomorrow's trip to Dover Athletic.

The full-back did not train yesterday after aggravating a groin problem in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Chester.

Beeley only managed to play 45 minutes of the game, before being replaced by Andy Parry, and has been having physio treatment through the week.

Manager Paul Cox sees him as the one player who could miss out on the trip to Kent, with Danny Livesey (knee) and Paul Turnbull (ankle) both having returned to full training yesterday after not featuring against Chester.

“Danny Livesey and Paul Turnbull both trained, which is a massive positive,” said Cox. “Beeley didn't train, as we're trying to give him the best opportunity to play on Saturday.

“We've got our fingers crossed on them. The one who is looking more unlikely is Beels, but the signs were that he was decent and we will see how he reacts to treatment.

“It's a scenario where all three could be fit, or all three could have a relapse in the next 24 hours.”

Barrow cast their eyes over two further players at training yesterday with a view to potential loan deals, with a centre-half from a Championship club being the one they appear most keen on.

Cox is also relentlessly pursuing other avenues to add strength and depth to his squad, though, and said: “We've had a look at the couple today and it's hard to tell yet. There's the lad from the Championship club and we will be speaking to the club to see what we can do.

“There are a lot of other irons in fires though. We're close to the Championship lad, but we've got one or two irons in other fires at other clubs. We've got to make sure we're getting the right one in.”

Signings seem unlikely before the Dover match tomorrow, a match Cox expects to be difficult.

He added: “It's going to be another tough game. It's a long trip, but if we go with a positive mind-set and try and play on the front foot, we'll see what happens.

“Chris (Kinnear, the Athletic manager) has done a great job down there, got them into the play-offs last year and I'm sure they'll have aspirations to get there again this year, at the very least. They are going to be one of the sides who will affect the top six in the division.”

In the Dover camp, new striker Ross Lafayette was one of four men on target in midweek, as he scored against former club Eastleigh in a 4-2 victory – a result which coast Chris Todd his job as Eastleigh manager.

That was his second goal in as many games since moving to the Crabble and he will be a threat against the Bluebirds tomorrow.

Athletic have bolstered their midfield since that victory over Eastleigh, with Leyton Orient's Sammy Moore joining on loan until January and available to play this weekend. Moore spent two seasons with Dover between 2008 and 2010 before joining AFC Wimbledon.

Dover reached the play-offs last season and are looking for the same – or better – this time round, despite losing the likes of Sean Raggett – a one-time Barrow target – during the close-season.
