SHAUN Beeley is happy to have stepped straight back into the Barrow AFC line-up – despite missing last week's 0-0 draw at Sutton United through suspension.

Beeley did not make the trip to London to take on the U's after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the FA Cup first round tie at Taunton Town.

His spot was taken by Euan Murray – making only his second start of the season – who helped AFC keep a clean sheet.

Beeley knows boss Paul Cox could have chosen to retain Murray in the side for the Cup replay against Taunton on Tuesday, and was relieved to feature, with the expectation being he will do so against Solihull Moors this weekend as well.

“You can't be complacent,” he said. “We're a good group of lads, and I couldn't really have argued if I didn't play on Tuesday night, because they kept a clean-sheet last weekend at Sutton and Euan did very well. I'm glad that the gaffer had the faith to put me back in.

“I think we've got a good squad, and if someone with capability and ability can go in if you are out, we will improve throughout the season.”

Beeley's absence against Sutton came after he spent all of September – and half of August – on the sidelines with a groin injury which reqquired treatment.

The 27-year-old's place was taken by both Murray and Andy Parry for one match each – the latter having seen his own season ended by a knee problem – while loanee Dom Smith – now back with Shrewsbury – deputised for six matches.

He was able to reclaim his spot for the 0-0 draw at Forest Green on October 1, and is happy his fitness is improving with each match since then.

“I've had a few problems with my groin, which I have never had in my career,” said ex-Morecambe and Fleetwood Town right-back Beeley. “It was a bit unexpected.

“I'm slowly getting back to it now. I still get the odd niggle, but I'm getting back to full-fitness, to 100 per cent, and I'm really enjoying my time at Barrow.”
