AFC owner Paul Casson hopes his team can put thoughts of the FA Cup to one side both quickly and efficiently – even if he is struggling to do so.

The Texas-based businessman, who will arrive back in Barrow next week to take in the televised clash with Eastleigh at Holker Street, has long been a big fan of the cup competition.

In his three years in charge, he had yet to see his team score in an FA Cup match – let alone win one – before last weekend's 2-1 success against Tranmere Rovers in the final qualifying round.

But, while the goals from Richie Bennett and Paul Turnbull meant he was able to break both those ducks, he is wary of the distraction the match and the subsequent draw away to Taunton Town can cause, and hopes his players are fully-focused on tomorrow's match at Woking.

“People talk about the distraction of the FA Cup, and even at this early stage you can see it and you can feel it because of the big buzz that was around Tranmere and the feeling afterwards when we won,” said the Barrow-born telecommunications millionaire.

“There is almost a feeling of 'oh, okay, Woking'. That's the thing you really have to pat attention to. But apparently the lads have trained really well and they are back on it, so it's not affecting them.

“Even so, you can really see how those kind of things could affect the mentality of the players and we have to be very diligent that doesn't happen.”
