NEW Barrow AFC full-back Dan Jones is being assessed by club medical staff after picking up a knock in Tuesday's 0-0 pre-season draw with Crewe Alexandra.

The summer signing from Hartlepool left the field after little more than half-an-hour following a collision with a trialist AFC full-back.

Assistant boss Micky Moore, who took charge of the team while boss Paul Cox was scouting a potential signing, revealed Jones had a dead leg which would be looked at by new physio Matt Butterfield before deciding on any necessary treatment and judging how long he may be out for.

“The only negative from the game was that Dan Jones picked up a knock, which is what you don't want in pre-season friendlies,” said Moore.

“The two things you don't want in pre-season friendlies is to lose the game or pick up injuries. We haven't lost the game, but we have picked up an injury to Dan Jones. We'll assess it over the next 24 hours.”

He added: “He took a knock to the belly of his quad. He's got a bit of a dead leg. I don't want to pre-empt how long he will be out for, we will see what he needs for it over the 24 hours and make a proper assessment of the situation.”

Cox confirmed Butterfield was assessing the problem, with little chance Jones will feature in Saturday's match against Nottingham Forest Under-23s.
