The unnamed front-man was the subject of seven days notice – a period after one club informs another of their intention to make a move for a non-contract player – which ended last week.
Since then, AFC manager Paul Cox and his backroom team have been in discussions with the player and his representatives about a potential move to Holker Street.
Matters have been complicated by potential interest from Football League and even Premier League sides, who are keen to take a closer look at the young talent, but who have not made concrete offers of a deal.
Cox is positive over how talks have progressed and still expects the forward to become a Barrow player.
“There is interest in him,” he said. “There are so many different facets to this deal, and we have to approach it in a very open-minded way.
“We’re going to be respectful and have good communication with his agent, and we want the best thing for both parties.
“It’s a case of finalising a few things before we move with it.
“There are just some grey areas, as happens with some deals, and we want to make sure that all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. It’s really politics to be dealt with.”
