“OUR game is more than just something to watch on TV” – the rallying cry of Barrow AFC managing director Andrew Casson, as this weekend sees the return of Non-League Day.

The international break means there are no Premier League or Championship fixtures, and fans nationwide are encouraged to take to the terraces to back their local team, as part of the annual celebration of grassroots football,.

The event was launched in 2010 to help teams in the lower reaches of the English footballing pyramid promote themselves to a wider audience. Tomorrow provides local fans the chance to take part, as the Bluebirds welcome Leyton Orient to Furness Building Society Stadium.

“With the Premier League taking the weekend off, clubs outside of the football league promote their fixtures to show that there is exciting, local and affordable football,” Casson said.

“We encourage people, supporters and novices alike, to come down, support the team and discover what’s on offer on Saturday with the visit of Leyton Orient.”

To encourage a greater attendance, the club is offering reduced ticket prices for the fixture.

“We have slashed admission prices so that all adult tickets are just £10, Concessions and Students are £7 and all Under-17s have free entry to the game.” Casson said.

“We are always looking for ways to get more of the next generation of supporters involved with the club and we hope to see lots of young Barrow fans around the ground on Saturday.”

Orient are expected to bring a strong contingent of away supporters to contribute to what should be a lively atmosphere. Barrow face the London club for the first time since a meeting in the FA Cup First Round at Holker Street in 2000, which Orient won 2-0 (see special report in tomorrow’s Mail).

Despite the heartache of a last-minute 1-0 defeat, Casson hailed the dedication and enthusiasm of the away supporters at Hartlepool on Tuesday night.

“We had over 100 supporters who travelled to Hartlepool and didn’t stop for 90 minutes, out singing nearly 3,000 home supporters,” he said.

Barrow should welcome back on-loan midfielder Chris Clements for tomorrow’s game.

The Grimsby Town midfielder made a promising debut in last Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Maidstone United but missed the trip to Hartlepool in midweek due to a sickness bug.

Midfielder Asa Hall (abductor groin) and striker Adi Yussuf (hamstring) are both rated as 50/50, although Bluebirds boss Micky Moore said Yussuf is more likely to return for the FA Cup tie at Shaw Lane, a week on Sunday. Central defensive trio Moussa Diarra, Dave Nieskens and Thierry Audel all remain sidelined, along with Andy Parry and David Fitzpatrick.
