BARROW AFC have signed Swedish youth international goalkeeper Tim Erlandsson on a month's loan deal from Nottingham Forest.

The 19-year-old was part of Sweden's squad as this summer's Olympic Games in Rio, and has played for his country at under-17s, under-19s and under-21s level.

Highly-rated by Forest, he joins club-mate Ryan Yates in being loaned out to the Bluebirds – with his initial spell due to expire on his Christmas Day birthday. Both Yates and Erlandsson were profiled on BT Sport last year.

Erlandsson fills the void left by the season-ending injury picked up by regular AFC stopper Joel Dixon.

Dixon was hurt in an innocuous incident late in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Guiseley, having fallen awkwardly when going to claim the ball from a corner. Scans on Thursday revealed cruciate knee ligament damage which will see him sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

Barrow boss Paul Cox does have former Wrexham goalkeeper Andy Coughlin available to him, a player who has spent the season so far on the bench.

However, he spoke of the need to have two keepers available at all times, and Erlandsson and Coughlin will now battle it out to start against Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.

Erlandsson trained with his new team-mates in Essex on Friday afternoon ahead of the National League match against the third-placed Daggers.
