BARROW AFC have swooped for former Preston North End and Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey.

The 30-year-old Jamaica international joins the Bluebirds on loan from Bury until the end of the season and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's FA Trophy tie at Brackley Town (kick-off 3pm).

Humphrey started his pro career by making more than 70 appearances for Shrewsbury Town and played in the Shrews' Wembley play-off final defeats to Bristol Rovers and Gillingham.

He joined Scottish Premier League club Motherwell in 2009 and went on to play more than 130 times for the Fir Park club, scoring eight goals and playing in the Europa League.

Humphrey returned to England in 2013 when he signed a three-year deal at Preston.

He made more than 100 appearances for North End, scoring seven goals and helped them win promotion from League One to the Championship in the 2014/15 season.

Humphrey left Deepdale in December 2016 and returned to Scottish football with Hibernian, where he enjoyed a debut to remember, creating two goals in a 3-0 win over Dundee United.

Humphrey left Easter Road at the end of the 2016/17 season after making six appearances, and he penned a a one-year deal at Bury last summer.
