BARROW AFC trio Lindon Meikle, Ross Hannah and Liam Hughes went back to school to urge youngsters to come and back the team.

The three Bluebirds flew into a special assembly at Ormsgill Primary, speaking to the children about their televised game against Eastleigh on October 29 – when the club will also hold their family day.

Meikle, Hannah and Hughes gave out free free tickets to all the children in Years 1 to 6, with all schools in the locality receiving their tickets before the half-term break.

The family day will see Halloween-themed prizes for fancy dress both for adults and children, face painting, craft activities, and lucky draw for the chance to take penalties at half-time of the AFC game.

Barrow AFC Community's Margaret Straker said: “The idea is to create an exciting atmosphere in the ground, which will be seen on TV.”

Barrow chief executive Austin Straker added: “This is an invaluable community link between the first-team squad and the local schools and we hope it will encourage more local families to visit Holker Street in the immediate future to support the project that was started here two seasons ago to get Barrow back into the Football League.

“It will take a big effort and the club needs the full support of the community.

“This is a two way involvement that is already beginning to bear fruit. The club already has a fantastic history but is now aiming to make history for the next generations of Bluebird supporters.

“It is always great to see three or more generations attending matches together to pass down the traditions of old.”
