ADY Pennock hailed his biggest win yet as Barrow AFC boss as victory at Maidenhead put a little bit of distance between them and the bottom four.

It may only be a three-point gap between the Bluebirds and the relegation zone thanks to their 1-0 success in Berkshire, but it felt like so much more for the side who have up to three games in hand on the teams around them.

Although he won’t admit it, a win on Wednesday night against Hartlepool and plans may be able to start being made for next season.

“I’m at the stage where I don’t care how we play,” said manager Pennock. “The wins are the only important thing and this was a massive three points for us.

“There weren’t many wins for the teams around us, and that’s why this is so big – that’s why it’s such a massive result. We didn’t come here for a draw, and not many teams come to Maidenhead and win – that’s why we are so happy.

“They’re all big wins but yes, at this stage it’s probably the biggest since I’ve come to the club – and that has a fair bit to do with the games we’ve had called off. Considering the circumstances, we know how big a three points this is.”

It’s only a second win of a postponement-blighted 2018, but Pennock said they have been able to perfect their shape in the extra time they have been given.

“I’ve been disappointed with the number of cancellations we have had, and what with the weather issues this weekend it may have left us with three games a week,” he said.

“If we lost this one too, but we not only got a game but we got a huge three points too,” he said.

“You fear the worst. Last night you hear the snow is coming and I was just praying it would be on because it would have come very tough, having to go Saturday-Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday potentially.

“We kept a good shape, even when we went down to ten men. That was our work in training coming out there. With all the games we have had cancelled, we have had time to get that part of our game right and really work on it.

“It’s now a massive game against Hartlepool on Wednesday. They showed great spirit up at AFC Fylde to clinch a point and come back like they did, so it will be two teams with confidence behind them.

“Now the goal is to transfer our away form into our home form. It’s too easy to say ‘win that and we should be okay’ – I said before today we need four wins out of the 12 games to give ourselves a real chance.”
