BARROW AFC have made good on their promise to add to their ranks this week, bringing in a of Football League full-back.

Former Grimsby Town and Hartlepool United player Dan Jones has signed a one-year contract, with the option for a second season.

Jones, 22, is set to be followed by a two other news recruit in the coming days, with further signings to be completed before pre-season training starts at next Friday.

The 6ft defender, who can also play in the middle of the back-four, moves to Holker Street after an unsettled year with League Two Grimsby Town.

He was signed by the Mariners last summer, but the departure of manager Marcus Bignot and the arrival of Russell Slade saw him out of favour, and he made just five appearances during the season.

He went out on loan to both Gateshead and AFC Fylde during the campaign – playing five games for each of them – before being released by Grimsby following the conclusion of the season.

Prior to his year with the Lincolnshire side, Jones had three seasons at first-team level with Hartlepool, having come through their youth system, making 37 League Two appearances.

Jones follows front-man Jordan White and midfielder Bradley Bauress in making the move to AFC so far this summer.

Two more signings are expected to be announced by Barrow this week, with the paperwork having been signed and the club awaiting confirmation of registration from the Football Association.

Manager Paul Cox is also in advanced talks with a new physio and first-team coach to join his set-up ahead of pre-season training starting.
