PAUL Cox has hailed goalkeeper Stuart Moore as one of the best young shot-stoppers he has sees.

The Barrow AFC goalkeeper has kept back-to-back clean sheets in his last two games – something the Bluebirds last managed as a team in February, 18 games ago – and has quickly shown himself as confident as the side's number one.

Moore, who was brought in during the summer having been part of the Reading set-up, and having played for Luton Town last season on loan, made a pair of good saves in Saturday's 3-0 win over Woking.

He denied Joe Ward in the first half and Inih Effiong in the second, and Cox sees that as a sign of his all-round ability.

“One of Stuart’s attributes is that he is probably one of the best shot-stoppers I have seen for his age,” said Cox of the 22-year-old. “He’s a baby, and I’m excited about him because I know the potential in the lad.

“He’s a bit like probably Joel (Dixon, Barrow other keeper, who has been out injured since last November) was when I first came here in terms of psychologically he needs a bit more of an understanding of the game.

“But he’s a young player, a young goalkeeper – I don’t think goalkeepers really mature until they’re about 28. He’s got a lot of maturing to do in that time-span, he’s improving all the time, getting better, and I think the kid is going to have a fantastic future in the game.”
