PAUL Cox faces some big selection dilemmas as Barrow AFC look to make it four unbeaten at Chester tonight.

The Bluebirds make the short trip to the Deva Stadium with the prospect of neither first-choice full-back being available (7.45pm kick-off).

Nick Anderton is definitely out after being sent off late on in the 4-2 win at Solihull Moors on Saturday.

For the second time this season, his dismissal came after he picked up a contentious second yellow card – leaving AFC unable to appeal and the left-back banned for tonight and Saturday's trip to Maidstone United.

On the other side of the back four, Shaun Beeley faces a fitness test on his hamstring after he was withdrawn in the closing stages of the first half at Solihull with a hamstring problem.

Dan Rowe, Matty Platt, Paul Turnbull, Jack Thomas and Akil Wright will all come into contention to fill the gaps.

Cox says he does have options, though he was frustrated to see Anderton dismissed for a challenge he did not even see as a foul.

“We've got other options,” he said. “We're have a look at one or two things before we make the final decision.

“Rowey has played there before, there is the option of changing the shape altogether, so we do have options – not plenty of options, but still options.

“I don't even think it was a foul – never mind a yellow card. But, once again, we're talking about erratic decision-making from a referee.

“It wasn't just me, it was a huge talking point for everybody – even the assessor. But it has happened and there is nothing we can do, it's not as if we can even appeal it. This is the craziness of the game at the minute – we've lost a player for two games through the bad decision-making of an official again.

“We'll get on with it. There's no use crying about it.”

On Beeley, he added: “We took Beels off because he was feeling his hamstring. We'll assess where he is. We hope we've caught it in time, but if not we've just got to get on with it. It's something we have to deal with.

“Platty has played right-back, we've also got Akil who has played right-back, Bully who has played right-back, Jack Thomas as well. None of them are out-and-out right-backs, but sometimes it's not an ideal situation and you've got to rely on somebody doing a job for a game or two.”

Chester go into tonight's game on the back of a 1-0 win at Bromley on Saturday which was their first victory in four games.

Cox expects the home side to be tough opponents, and said: “They had a fabulous result at the weekend, and we know how tough the game will be. But we're on a good run of form ourselves.

“We've got to be positive again, we've got to go and try to play on the front foot and try to win a football match.”
