BARROW AFC will not be pursuing several potential signings after watching them in action in midweek.

Manager Paul Cox fielded a side made up of squad members returning from injury or lacking match-time and triallists in a behind-closed-doors game against Fleetwood on Wednesday.

Among them was a towering teenage French centre-half who had impressed in training and was thought to be a recruit-in-waiting.

However, Cox has elected not to move forward with moves for any of the triallists on view, who failed to display the required assets in the 3-1 defeat.

He said: “It gave us a chance to have a look at some of the triallists who have been training with us, and who we needed to make a decision on, on a game basis.

“It wasn’t very good. We won’t be going ahead with any of them.

“It’s the good thing of doing the due diligence with players and having them training with you. We get to see them in different scenarios. We’ve seen a lot of them on a day-to-day basis, but it was in a game scenario that we needed to have a look at them.

“We can look at different things – the game was on 3G and you get a different game from that – but overall, we’re looking for something a little bit more consistent.”
