BARROW AFC boss Micky Moore believes it is only a matter of time before the goal drought ends.

The Bluebirds have scored just three goals in the past six games – a barren spell which has coincided with them picking up just two points.

All three of those goals have been scored by Byron Harrison, AFC’s star striker who netted 22 times last season, before a long-term ankle injury kept home out of action for long periods at the tail end of the campaign.

Harrison also missed the opening five games of this term as he battled back to fitness, and although he has been involved in each of the last nine matches, the 30-year-old Londoner is still not up to full speed and has missed a few chances of late that he would normally put away.

Moore is confident Harrison’s golden touch in front of goal will return, and he was quick to add that the burden of goalscoring should be spread throughout the team and not just by the strikers.

“This time last year the chances Byron is getting now, he was putting them away, but it’s not just the forwards, it’s the whole team,” said Moore.

“The players aren’t missing on purpose. Confidence-wise in front of goal, things are a little bit low at the moment. It’s my job to keep believing in these players, and for them to keep getting in these positions and keep creating the chances, and I’ve got to believe that they will score goals because they are good players.”

He added: “The Barrow supporters know Byron Harrison better than me. They had 12 months of watching him week-in, week-out. I’ve watched him from afar when he was at Cheltenham and Chesterfield.

“He is a very good player, and he’s an unbelievable professional and a wonderful person. And he knows by his very high standards that he sets himself that he isn’t quite there yet.

“If I turned around now and said Byron Harrison is 100 per cent fit, people would question me. We know he is not there yet. What we have got to do is keep believing in Byron Harrison, keep putting him out there and he’s got to keep getting in those positions because we know when he is right, when he is 100 per cent, he is one of the best centre forwards in this league.

“And if the chances keep coming, Byron Harrison will score goals. I genuinely believe that.”
