MICKY Moore is happy to go it alone in the Holker Street hot-seat – for the time being at least.

Moore was officially appointed as Barrow AFC boss last Wednesday, after impressing club chiefs in a six-match spell in the dug-out, when he stepped up from his role as Paul Cox's assistant following the latter's unexpected departure.

The 44-year-old from Birmingham had help from Marcus Bignot for the final four of his six games in charge as interim manager – with the Bluebirds producing one win, three draws and two defeats during that time.

However, with Bignot having since take over the reins at Chester City, Moore is back in sole control in the hot-seat.

It's a situation the one-time Solihull Moors manager is comfortable with, although he says he will be looking to appoint a deputy boss when the time is right.

“I am talking to people, but it's not something that need to be done in the next 24 or 48 hours,” said Moore.

“When I did the first two games in charge on the Saturday and the Monday (1-1 draw against Maidenhead followed by 1-0 defeat at AFC Fylde) I felt that I needed help to get through that period.

“Now I have been in the role roughly three weeks, and with the help of Marcus I have managed to get myself into a routine.

“The lads understand me and know the direction we are going in. What I need to do when I get my assistant is choose carefully and make sure I pick the right man for the job.”

Moore's appointment hasn't gone down well with a section of the Holker Street fan-base but he addressed the discontent after a group of fans were involved in an ugly stand-off with managing director Andrew Casson during Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Sutton United, where the validity of Moore’s appointment was questioned.

He said: “There will be some supporters who would have wanted a more experienced manager, someone who has been there, done it before but it doesn’t matter – every person in life needs an opportunity, in every walk of life, not just football.

“The club has given me this opportunity, I believe in my ability and I have been around this level for the past seven or eight seasons. All I will say to the supporters is give me the opportunity to show you what I can do. I have had seven games and I have six or seven first team players out."
