UPBEAT Barrow boss Paul Cox is not ‘blowing raspberries’ but he was chuffed to pick up a point at National League title-chasers Forest Green Rovers.

The Bluebirds were certainly resolute in a far from turgid scoreless draw in Gloucestershire as they stretched their impressive unbeaten run to eight matches despite slipping two places in the National League to sixth.

And they could have stolen the points at the death when Jordan Williams took advantage of a Darren Carter error to drive on and fizz in a stinger that Sam Russell superbly turned away at full-stretch.

Both Cox and Forest Green boss Mark Cooper are backed by ambitious chairmen, who are plotting a rise to the top, and on this evidence the future is looking bright.

And the Holker Street boss is changing the Bluebirds’ perceptions month-by-month.

He beamed: “We saw two good sides today and I thought the game was entertaining.

“As you expect, Forest Green probably had the lion’s share of possession, but I thought we finished the game stronger and we were a bit unlucky at the end – the keeper pulled-off a very good save and probably little bit better decision-making from Jordan (Williams) late on – we maybe have a goal, but we have kept the unbeaten run going and we look a solid unit.

“I’m pleased for the boys and over the moon for the supporters who made the long journey today.”

Cox felt his side improved after the break and felt his team edged the second-half and could have pinched it at the death, but for a great save from the in-form Sam Russell.

He added: “The first half I questioned our belief in the final third and I wanted to go and score a goal. Moussa (Diarra) has had a free header in the centre of the goal and I expect him to do better than that and apart from that we looked a bit lacklustre in the final third, but the second half we played some good stuff in the final third.

“This is a good point but were are not blowing raspberries at the moment.”

Cox feels the club are moving in the right direction after losing just five games in 2016.

“The way we’re perceived is a lot different now and we’re working very hard to earn the right of people looking at us very differently – I’m really proud of the players,” he said.
