DANNY Livesey hopes Barrow AFC’s upswing under boss Paul Cox will continue for a long time to come.

The Bluebirds club captain has returned to the side in the past month after being sidelined by injury for much of the new manager’s reign.

In the three National League games he has started, AFC have been unbeaten, putting together a trio of league matches without defeat for the first time this season.

Livesey, who is part of the squad facing Cheltenham Town at Holker Street today, believes the new methods, tactics and routines introduced by Cox are paying off and is optimistic they can help the side continue to improve.

“Paul has installed the way he wants us to play,” he said. “It’s a little bit different to the way Edmo (previous boss Darren Edmondson) wanted us to play, but each to their own – everyone has their idea of the best and most effective way to get results. At the minute, it is proving right and long may it continue.

“If everyone buys into what he is trying to do and we are all working together, then hopefully we can achieve the goal of pushing up the league a little bit.”

Livesey is happy to be back in the side after five league games where he had to watch Simon Grand and Steve Williams combine in the heart of defence.

A groin problem meant he was unavailable to feature when Cox took over the reins from Edmondson, but he has been happy with the form of both himself and the team since his return.

He netted against Welling United in the 2-1 win there and helped Barrow keep a first clean sheet in the league since November in the 0-0 draw against Gateshead on Tuesday.

“I feel good,” said the 31-year-old former Carlisle United man. “I was out for a little bit longer than I thought I would be, it was about two months in total.

“Since I have come back in, I feel all right, I feel like I have played quite well in the games we have played.

“We’re unbeaten in the league in that time and that’s always a positive when you come into a side who are tough to beat. That’s the way we are going at the minute.

“I’m pleased with how it’s going at the moment.”

He added: “You have to produce week in, week out. You know if you have one or two bad games, then you’re out of the team.

“That’s what you need. It’s healthy for the team and that’s how it should be at every club.

“You can’t just be expecting to play every week if you’re not putting in the effort.

“It’s up to the lads who are in at the minute to keep the shirt and I feel at the minute we’re doing that.”
