PAUL Cox said he’d be absolutely delighted to win back-to-back Vanarama Manager of the Month awards – so long as the sponsors brought the right size t-shirt, writes Jon Couch.

The Bluebirds chief took the award for March after leading his side on an impressive seven-match unbeaten run.

And after making it eight with a 1-0 victory at Aldershot Town on Saturday, the former Mansfield chief joked how a wardrobe malfunction caused a smile when it came to performing the official media duties.

“If I’ve got to wear the t-shirt back to front again then I won’t be looking forward to it at all,” Cox smiled.

“They gave me a medium so I had to wear it the wrong way round.

“One or two people on twitter and social media had a good laugh, as did the wife, but it’s one of those things and if I have to wear a t-shirt the wrong way round to please people then so be it.”

And who’s to say he won’t? With solid away displays like the one which put paid to Aldershot at the EBB Stadium, it’s no wonder Cox’s men are still unbeaten away from home in 2016.

“The boys were superb again today,” he added. “We’ve come away to a side that’s been on a high after two good results, so to keep a clean sheet and win the game, I’m really pleased with the boys.

“They’ve put in a good shift today and we’re looking a solid unit at the minute. We’ve had two or three more hooked off the line and the pleasing point was that Joel (Dixon) hasn’t had a shot to save.

“It would be very easy for some players to down tools, put the flip-flops on and the Amber Solaire, but we’ve had a chat about being professional and finishing the season on a high and once again they’ve taken it on board.”

Cox also defended his decision to leave out striker Jason Walker for Ben Tomlinson, just days after he capped his 250th club appearance with a man-of-the-match performance against FC Halifax.

“Jason Walker was excellent in his previous game, but the squad, the team, have to realise that it’s nothing personal,” Cox added.

“I pick a side to try and win a football match and we knew Aldershot play with three midfielders and are on a good run of form, and I just thought Tommo was a bit more adaptable in his game that he can sit back as a No.10 and pick up the deepest lying midfielder.

“It’s nothing against Jason Walker, or Tomlinson, who plays, it’s all about the team, and the boys understand that now.”
