BARROW AFC will let squad members know if they are being retained at Holker Street at the start of next week.

Owner Paul Casson confirmed the board would meet with manager Paul Cox on Sunday morning and playing staff would be informed of their status after that.

Speaking on the final afternoon of the season, as Barrow played host to Wrexham in the National League, the American-based millionaire recognised it was a hard time for players as their futures hang in the balance.

“Tomorrow at 10am we have a meeting and the board will get together with Paul and his coaching staff and we start planning,” said Casson, who flew in with son Andrew from Texas earlier in the week.

“Unfortunately, this is football and when seasons end there are always the sad decisions you have to make about players who will leave.

“That will take place pretty quickly and the players who are released will be released next week. Then we will set about building a squad for next year that we hope will compete at the top end of the table.”

He added: “It’s always the hardest decision to tell people they don’t have a job any more.

“That’s why I don’t think I could ever be a manager, because come Monday morning Paul has probably got to tell however many players that he chooses that they don’t have a job any more at this football club. To do that, is one of the most difficult things there is.”
