BARROW AFC expect to name their first new signings for next season in the coming days.

The club are close to completing deals for a brace of strikers, one an experienced scorer in the Conference and the other an up-and-coming ace.

A club statement said: “Boss Paul Cox is confident of landing two new forwards over the next few days.

“He spent Wednesday talking to around 10 potential recruits face-to-face, along with scout Paul Ogden, and is planning to meet more in the next couple of days.

“On his possible dual signing Cox said: 'We are very close to signing two new boys for next season. If all goes to plan, everything should be signed and sealed by Sunday or Monday'.

“He continued: 'One is an up and coming lad with bags of potential and the other a proven goalscorer at this level'.

“Contractual ties to former clubs mean Barrow cannot name either player at this stage.”

Ben Tomlinson, who netted four times for AFC while on loan from Barnet this season, has been allowed to leave by his parent club and would fit the description of “a proven goalscorer at this level” and with a year left with the Bees, he also has contractual issues to sort.

When asked about Tomlinson's situation specifically, Cox said: “I think Ben did very well for us, but first and foremost he needs to sort his situation out with Barnet.

“I know all the noises coming out of Barnet are that he has been given a free, but he has still got a year's contract left at the football club.

“I think there are a few more things which need to be ironed out before anybody gets to speak to the lad.”
