Ian Evatt gave some harsh analysis following Barrow AFC’s home defeat to National League strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

Dagenham had not won away from home so far this season until they came to Holker Street and had picked up just one win, which came against National League basement club Braintree on Tuesday night at Victoria Road.

Evatt’s side have now failed to win in their last four fixtures, seeing AFC stay in 15th place, but just three points above the relegation zone after 10 fixtures and Bluebirds boss Evatt was in no mood for pulling punches in the wake of the defeat.

“No excuses, it was not good enough - as simple as that,” said Evatt. “From an excellent performance on Tuesday, to one that was miles off what we demand and what I as a manager asks for.

“I’m not happy at all, we don’t accept mediocrity, they’ve got to take a long hard look at themselves and possibly we need changes.”

When asked about conceding another late goal at Holker Street having had the majority of the chances throughout the game themselves, Evatt also added: “I just think we get panicky when we don’t score.

“Saying that we have to score, we’ve had two one-on-ones which you’ve got to take. We need to work harder as a group, a few home truths have been told and it’s important that we respond now on Saturday.”

This was only Dagenham’s second win of the season, of which manager Peter Taylor was delighted for his side.

“It’s nice for us to get an away win, Barrow play some very good football, and you’ve got to be very compact, otherwise they’re going to open you up,” said Taylor.
