IAN Evatt is guarding against complacency as Barrow AFC prepare to host early strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge in the Vanarama National League tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).

The Daggers, who are managed by former England Under-21 boss and experienced club coach Peter Taylor, picked up their first win against bottom-of-the-league Braintree Town on Tuesday.

They have yet to pick up a point on the road either, but Bluebirds manager Evatt knows nothing can be taken for granted.

“You can look at their stats, but that doesn’t mean much when the ball is kicked off on Saturday,” said Evatt. “I believe if we play to our potential, then we’ll win the game.

“We can’t afford to underestimate anyone. Obviously Peter is a very experienced manager; he’s had a very good career at high levels, so he sets his sides up strong.

“We have to play to our potential in every game this season.”

Evatt will be looking for a similar defensive display to the one in last Tuesday’s goalless draw at Hartlepool United

“The back four defended like I’ve asked them to do,” said Evatt.

“From set pieces we look comfortable, we held a brave, high line - which, again, we’ve been working on in training.”
