BARROW AFC summer signing Astley Mulholland has moved to Hyde on a one-month loan deal, having failed to feature for the Bluebirds so far this season.

Mulholland, 30, saw this move materialise due to the experienced winger’s lack of match sharpness following a hamstring injury the former Colwyn Bay man picked up in pre-season.

And Bluebirds boss Ian Evatt felt his decision to let the former FC United of Manchester and Chorley winger to go on loan to Hyde was the best one for the player.

“It’s a move that I wanted,” said Evatt. “He’s missed a lot of pre-season and a lot of football, he needs the minutes and he’s not up to speed to come straight into our team, so he needs to go elsewhere to do it.”

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old left winger expressed his gratitude on social media about being given the opportunity to play competitive football, following Hyde’s 3-2 loss to Scarborough on Saturday in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Mulholland wrote on Twitter: “Felt good to be back out on the pitch today, first competitive game since April... minutes in the bank...disappointed about the result but we go again Tuesday @hydeunited.”

Mulholland was one of three signings that Barrow made prior to Evatt’s appointment in the summer, along with Jack Hindle, also from Colwyn Bay, and Josh Granite.

Meanwhile, Matty Elsdon is set for a further seven to eight weeks out after the Barrow AFC defender was sent to see a specialist about his knee injury.

This is better than first feared as the 21-year-old had a rupture in his posterior lateral ligament, which can often rule players out for a much longer period of time than the three months.

Meanwhile, Jacob Blyth is progressing well in training and is aiming to be in contention to feature for the Bluebirds against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Blyth did not return against Solihull due boss Ian Evatt not wanting to rush him back.
